Medical doctor resigns to participate in Next Titan

Olatunde Qadri, one of the 16 contestants in the biggest entrepreneurial reality TV show in West Africa, The Next Titan season 6, quit his medical job of five years to be on the show.

The Communications Manager for the project, Motunrayo Idris, in a statement said that Qadri made his decision known during a profile interview on the first episode of the show, quoting him as saying he would settle for The Next Titan given the opportunity.

“I left my job because I saw Next Titan as a big platform to help boost my dream of becoming a fashion designer and a doctor. I see it as an avenue to showcase my idea to millions of people. He added.

In addition, Olatunji said that although he could always get another job as a medical doctor in any good hospital, he might not get another chance to be on The Next Titan and that was why he took the big decision to quit. “I have a strong conviction about it and I have no regret whatsoever. As a matter of fact, a send forth was done for me before I left the office,” he said.

The Next Titan is a reality TV show that is aimed at empowering young Nigerians, by providing quality leadership, management and finance skills, amongst others, to bring great ideas and Innovation to life, and this year’s show is theme: Impossible is possible.

This year’s show houses professionals from different works of life, such as lawyers, Information technology managers, Journalist to mention a few.

The show, which encourages entrepreneurs, does not limit its scope to just business. It gives room for anyone with a brilliant idea to be innovative and bring their ideas to life.

The show, which has been on for six years, has experienced immense growth and keeps expanding in terms of interest and engagement of Nigerian youths.

The reality show which is scheduled to air for 10 weeks will see one person emerge the winner with the winning a cash prize of N 7 million and a brand-new Ford car.

Barcelona Truck Attack Kills 12 And Injures 80

• MADRID (MarketWatch) — A popular promenade in Barcelona, Spain, became a scene of panic and devastation on Thursday after a van rammed pedestrians, leaving a dozen people dead and dozens more injured.

The incident took place on Las Ramblas, a long, tree-lined street that is typically packed with tourists and locals, around 5 p.m. local time (11 a.m. Eastern time).

Local media were at one point reporting that hostages were being held at a bar near the scene of the attack by other assailants, but later reports cast doubt on the matter. The Associated Press cited the regional president in reporting that two suspects had been arrested.

The Wall Street Journal, citing the jidahist-activity-monitoring organization SITE Intelligence Group, reported that Islamic State had claimed responsibility for the attack. Spain’s prime minister, Mariano Rajoy, tweeted that terrorists would never defeat a united people who love freedom.

The seaside city was on lockdown in the immediate wake of the attack, with residents told to not leave their homes and many reported to be sheltering inside stores and restaurants and bars that closed the moment news of the attack reached them.

Media reports in Spain and the U.S. indicated the police were treating the incident as a terrorist attack. The police presence on streets in the Spanish capital Madrid, some 600 kilometers southwest of Barcelona, was sharply escalated in the wake of the Barcelona attack.

Nathalie Lezcano Sticchi, a 28-year-old resident of Barcelona who lives near the area, told MarketWatch she had passed the scene of the attack just five minutes before, stepping off the Ramblas to go into a Zara clothing store on a side street.

“When I was on the first floor, one of the guys who was working [at Zara] said, ‘You have to go outside, we are going to close because something is happening at the Ramblas,’ ” Sticchi said in a telephone interview. She said a friend had forwarded her a message from his mother, who had been at Las Ramblas and seen a truck crashing into people.

Sticchi ran to her house, as stores drew their shutters all around her. “People were running everywhere, and no one understood what was going on,” she said, “and I started hearing ambulances.”

Several metro lines were closed in Barcelona, and the area remained sealed off into the evening. Police were urging individuals not to share images of the crash site on social media. They also thanked the media for pixellating images they had chose to use of victims:

Trucks are normally allowed up the Ramblas to make deliveries, and according to Sticchi it has a fairly heavy police presence.

Spain hasn’t suffered a major attack on its soil since 2004, when an al-Qaeda-inspired terrorist cell detonated simultaneous explosions on the Cercanias commuter train in Madrid on March 11. The attack, which took place three days before Spain’s general election, killed 192 people and injured thousands.

The van attack on Las Ramblas killed 12 and injured 80, according to an NBC News report citing the regional president.

The Barcelona scene is one that has become all too familiar in Europe. A deadly truck attack in Nice, France, in July of last year left 86 people dead and hundreds injured. Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attack.

In December 2016, a truck was deliberately driven into the Christmas market in Berlin, leaving 12 people dead and 56 others injured.

ISIS has claimed responsibility for those attacks, along with a deadly attack near London Bridge in June.

There is definitely no slowing down for the Osinachi crooner in 2017 as he drops this new single just days after releasing the new Lagos anthem, ‘Beautiful Lagos’ which even caught the attention and admiration of the Lagos State Governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode. He went on to privately present the song to the Governor himself. He seems totally ready to take over this year.

Top Kannywood actress, Rahama Sadau has been expelled from the Hausa film industry by the Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria.

Sadau was expelled for featuring in a romantic musical video by Jos born musician, ClassiQ.

The statement dated October 2 and signed by the Secretary of the association, Salisu Mohammed, also warned other actors and actresses to henceforth follow the rules binding their participation in the Kannywood film industry.

No word yet from Sadau, who is currently in Mumbai, India.

BRING BACK OUR ICE PRINCE

Apparently the hype around the Bring Back Our Girls movement is regaining momentum after the buzz around it seemed to have died down for a bit. However, in my opinion, it’s not just the two-hundred-plus girls from Chibok community that are missing, there’s someone else that seems to have gone off the radar completely for some time now.

His name is Panshak Henry Zamani, he was born in Minna, Niger State but moved to the ancient city of Jos, Plateau State at the tender age of two. He’s got brown skin, a bit lanky with a middle-belt accent. He is a hip-hop recording artiste, with a bit of a stint in acting too. He rose to fame after releasing Oleku, one of Nigeria’s most remixed songs of all time. He won the Hennessy Artistry Club Tour in 2009. Some of his accolades include one BET Award, one Ghana Music Award, Headies Awards, Nigerian Entertainment Awards and two Channel O Music Video Awards.

He used to be signed to Chocolate City Music under which he dropped his debut album,Everybody Loves Ice Prince in 2011. The album included singles like Oleku, Superstar andMagician. The year 2013 saw this artiste release his sophomore album, Fire of Zamani. The album had singles like Aboki, I Swear, Gimme Dat and a few other banging singles. Shortly after Audu Maikori stepped down at the helm at Chocolate City Music, Jude ‘MI’ Abaga was announced as the new Chairman of Chocolate City with this artiste as Vice Chairman.

Did I mention that he’s also the father of a handsome little boy, Jamal, who he had with a lady who goes by the name Bimbo Babatunde. He’s said to have been romantically involved with female rapper, Eva Alordiah, when he first came to Lagos.

His musical projects include Everybody Loves Ice Prince (2011), Fire of Zamani (2013) and theTrash Can EP which he released in 2015.

There were rumours that Panshak Zamani was no longer a part of Chocolate City, the imprint under which he achieved pretty much all of his success. He went on to confirm the rumours in an interview on a popular radio station in Lagos during their midday show. Zamani stated unequivocally that his contract with Chocolate City ended two years ago but remained with the label for purely personal/relationship purposes. A few months later, he officially went public with his Super Cool Cats label and was said to be on the verge of signing a new act, Jilex Anderson. Zamani went as far as introducing Jilex Anderson to the audience at a show at the University of Benin.

Panshak Zamani was also rumoured to be working on launching an urban fashion line as well as his third studio album which he has already titled Jos To The World. It is at this point that Panshak Zamani went “missing”. Some of his latest singles including No Mind Dem, Feelings, Chike (which features Korede Bello, and sounds like an annoying remix to Olamide’sAbule Sowo) and most recently, Excellencyfeaturing DJ Buckz which he put out a very below par video for (going by his previously-set standards).

For an artiste who has been touted by many to be a “Candy Rapper”, I still loved and defended him on every platform I was on. A lot of his music in the past always came off as cheesy and wanting to appeal more to the ladies as well as the fast-tempo-music-lovers. Obviously he was able to get away with it, but it seems the fans are now wiser. It almost feels like he has failed to reinvent himself or at least up the ante music-wise. A lot of times his flow sounds the same, while at other times, he’s singing people to sleep. For pete’s sake, who is this impostor??!

With the young cats like Ycee, Dremo, Zoro and a few others looking to steal the rap crown from hip-hop household names like Olamide, Phyno and co who are also not slacking as they are also working tirelessly to be in our faces and ears every single time, Panshak is steady falling my hand o!

So this doesn’t come off as aimless and useless ranting, ask yourself these pertinent questions:

• What genre of music does Ice Prince really do?
• Would you really define Ice Prince as a rapper?
• Would Ice Prince be able to hold his own against the younger, hungrier and fierier rappers in the game right now?

Having answered these questions, it wouldn’t be totally out of place for me to conclude that Panshak Zamani is gradually slipping into oblivion. Call me crazy, but I don’t recognize the impostor passing himself off as the Ice Prince I used to love and adore so please, before it’s too late, BRING BACK OUR ICE PRINCE!!!!!!
